Solved Gateway Laptop Keyboard And Integral Mouse Not Working

  • 14

gateway NV53 keyboard not working but on on external keyboard working ok. The mouse is the same. I am a total novice on compters and asking for help. Thanks in advance. Somebody told me to take it to get a new keyboard but as I am retired I am reluctant to pay out a lot of money for what maybe a less serious problem.

  1. I’ll assume you mean touchpad and keyboard not working.

    From a website:
look at keyboard for a key that has a picture of the touchpad with an X through ( on gateway laptop it on F7) it, click it and it will be enabled. if the touchpad is from symantec click on that in the system tray then click enable touchpad. this can also be found in properties, mouse, touchpad.”

It seems odd to have both faults. My guess is that the touchpad was switched off somehow and the keyboard is defective (so you can’t switch the touchpad on again, or anything else). If this is right then the keyboard needs to be replaced or repaired. You could of-course continue with the external devices. It is unlikely that an external keyboard will allow you to switch on the touchpad.

    EDIT:
Hang on for other opinions though – that’s the advantage of a forum, we pool our ideas.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome – thanks
