Can’t Remotely Connect To Router

  • 0

I have a Linksys WRT54GS router that I’m trying to access remotely. In the settings for the router I have clicked the option to enable remote access and set the port to be 8080. I’m trying to access it remotely by typing in the browser “http://my.ip.address:8080” (where my ip address is the ip address from the router’s status tab) but it doesn’t work

  1. What are you doing again? The remote access feature is for WAN side access so you can configure the router from any where. You don’t need it if you are the LAN side because you simply plug in the address of the router in a browser.

You only need remote access if you are a network engineer and want to configure routers from your main office when they are in remote locations. I would turn it off because you are giving access to any on on the Web to try to hack your router unless you have a really secure password.
