Hard Drive Disappeared From BIOS, BIOS Won’t Detect.

Asus A7V8X-X motherboard with AMD Athlon XP 3000+ processor.
OS Windows XP.
Tried other drives and BIOS won’t detect anything on IDE 0.
Is the motherboard defect?

      Try jumpering it as cable select (CS) and see if that makes a difference. Be sure to connect it to the black connector.

      Check the manual for that motherboard and make sure you’re doing everything right in cmos/bios setup.

      You might want to reflash the bios with an older version.

      Lastly, since it may be a used board you may need to remove it and make sure there’s no bent pins or broken solder joints at the IDE connection. Check for other possible damage like puffy capacitors.
