are actually .jpg files. When it isn’t known, some image viewers can
recognize that a file is actually a file type it can display, while others
cannot. IrfanView is a free image viewer that has been around for
many years that can detect, display, and rename files with incorrect
filename extensions. I don’t know whether it can rename in a batch
mode, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it can.
