Solved Why Won’t My Gateway DX4860 Desktop Connect To Wifi?

  • 4

My desktop (gateway DX4860) can’t find any wifi signals at all, my phone and other devices are connected so i know its not a router problem. I tried plugging ethernet in but the cable is crappy and old

  1. Sometimes the olde “clip across the ear” resolves things…

For clarification though. Do you know if the wifi card (as described in device manager) is just that; an an admin/plugin card? If the latter – an add in card then it may be slightly loose in or displaced in its socket. And all you would need to do is to remove power completely from the desktop – i.e. remove the poor cord. Then open the case; remove the card and re-inserrt firmly. Restore power and see if it is (still) OK. Equally – again with power cord removed – simply press firmly on the add in card to ensure it is firmly inserted… Then restore power etc…

The reason for removing the power cord, rather than simply switching the desktop off via its on/off switch, is that if the power cord is still attached, and the main sockets is “live”, then there will be volts running around the motherboard (even though you think the system is actually switched off).

Removing cards etc. whilst there are volts running around the motherboard risks damaging the cards/motherboard… So with any desktop/tower system remove the power cord… And with a laptop remove the battery too.
