Comment: I have and keep updated spywareblaster as well as sygate firewall. I really don't have to much trouble with pop ups, so with spywareblaster do i really ned to download a good host file. If so I see many by doing a google search but not sure which is best. any suggestions. Or should I leave well enough alone. Thanks

Reply: (edit)In Windows XP, I have done this, no popups-- * Start | Run (type) "services.msc" (no quotes) * Scroll down to "DNS Client", Right-click and select: Properties * Click the drop-down arrow for "Startup type" * Select: Manual, click Apply/Ok and restart. (IF you are the only PC user, and not part of a domain.) That also eliminates one SVCHOST process in Task Manager. That was taken from this --- http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hos... Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts File

Reply: (edit)Hehehe, killing DNS client and others I was able to get XP down to 12 processes -11 if you don't include task manager. it's always great to use things like host files and group policy instead of clogging the system up with anticrap software. Why serve in heaven when you can reign in hell?

Reply: (edit)Keep in mind disabling DNS CLIENT also disabled the DNS Cache, which means every name gets looked up, probably slowing down your internet. I should also add that a host file is handy (especially for local routing) but it was doomed from the beginning since size increases processing, again slowing things down. So this may make that PC lean, it will slow down the browser. Cheers. J. j e r u v y a t y a h o o d o t c o m
