For the last three weeks or so my laptop has more often than not been unable to open anything along the dock at the bottom of the screen. i.e start button, toolbars etc. Whenever I try to access one of these, the computer just beeps as though something is restricting me from accessing them. Instead, I have to get to files, programs etc from the desktop and anything that is minimized has to be brought back up by the end programs (ctl+alt+del) box. I have to turn off my laptop and hope that it works properly when it loads back up. Sometimes it does, but most of the time it's the same problem! I am working with Windows XP Can anyone suggest anything to help? cheers guys.
Open Task Manager (ctl+alt+del), then on the Process tab, see if a process has a high CPU Usage. WHEN PROBLEM HAPPENS AGAIN. That can inhibit what you can do. ==================== ALSO Do you check for, and remove, Spyware ?? Spyware includes ---- Adware, Dialers, Browser Hijackers, Trojans, Cookies, Key Loggers, Trackware, and other Malware while browsing the internet.
Most Virus and Spyware scans are likely to work better in Windows Safe-Mode.
Thanks. In my CPU usage the "system idle process" is around 90 when I start up. Its now around 50 and firefox is around 35. I have Mcafee I will run a spyware thing now if you can do that on it. Thanks for the link too. I will let you know how I get on.
Ive had a look through those sites, but I cant seem to figure out how to download the actual service package. It just leads me to other sites or tells me to check my automatic updates on my laptop. no luck im afraid. thanks anyway tho. P.s. Is there a way of restoring programs that are in the bottom right hand toolbar using the keyboard???
I am guessing that you have keylogger/trojan or rootkit. Try this approach to overcome the problem, but I have gut feeling soon you will be fed up and will do a hard formatting and re-install. So to prepare for that start saving you very important data now and then follow these steps.
(1) Goto GMER.net, (2) Download GMER, (3) Install it in SAFE MODE. (4) Run GMER in SAFE MODE and see if you have a ROOTKIT on your drive. (Note: GMER may install GMER.sys in your windows/system32folder -- in order o erase the rootit/virus) (5) Please POST oyur GMER log here.
hi. I have downloaded that program and scanned the computer but this page wont let me paste my results for some reason. The codes and stuff just seem like jibberish to me, so im not sure what the results are....
