Hi,
I'm trying to uninstall firefox 2 and have done all the routes I know of.
1- I uninstalled it in add/remove
2- I followed all the instructions on tweakguides.com
3- I cleaned out all the registry entries.
Then I used CCleaner, ATF cleaner to clean out the excess files.
I then rebooted and proceeded to re-install firefox 2.0
When I opened firefox after the install, guess what? It asked if I wanted to restore my session or start a new one? What is that crap? When it opened it also went to www.yahoo.com which I had used previously as the homepage.

I had deleted ALL the files and registry entries I found relating to mozzila and firefox...why is it re-installing to the same settings I had previously?

Sounds like the old days trying to uninstall AOL software which was totally imbedded onto the HD.

Anyone have any better ideas on uninstalling and putting in a fresh installation? I would appreciate the input.
Thanks

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

the firefox profile is not in the registry, it's in the hidden application data folder in c:\documents and settings\username\ (where user name is the name of the user account)

turn on viewing of hidden folders and dig for it, delete the firefox folder (under mozilla) and see if that helps.

I also see stuff in C:\Documents and Settings\<userid>\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles.

Just search C:\Documents and Settings and all subfolders for 'Firefox'. Be sure to include hidden files and folders in the search.

Isn't it strange though? Seems like it gets so imbedded so you can't uninstall it...pretty bad I'd say, maybe IE is the better bet after all...LOL
Zenith, I'll try what you suggested. I've already used the reg cleaners and deleted everything I could find...I'll dig deeper.
Thanks

try defraging the drive , the files left over are still there just the file names are stripped when you delete stuff. sooo when you reinstall to the same directory it will pick up the same crap . Or choose another istallation directory.

if you want to securely delete, try Sdelete from microsoft.

While many people are complaing about the way firefox saves the application data folder, it can be very helpfull when backing up firefox before a re-format or migrate to another computer etc, etc. There are advantages to the way firefox does that.

I finally found a work-around for this problem after hours of research:
start>run type "firefox -p" without the quotes, create a new profile and
use it
I deleted the old profile and made a new one. Now I have a fresh Firefox browser to work with.

Thanks for all the replies
