Comment: Hello all, The other day I scanned my HDD with NAV 4.0 and to make a long story short, the anti-virus killed my HDD even though I didn't have a virus. Symantec says it's a programming error and has a fix that is a whole lot of work when you have no virus. Question is, whose anti-virus is better? I have only used the aforementioned Norton. Is McAfee better? Better customer service than the Symantec idiots? Thanks, Gary

Reply: (edit)If you are going to just be using your computer as a stand alone and not hook it up to a network then go with McAfee because it works great with Microsoft. Heck Microsoft packages McAfee with WIN98 Plus so whatever works for Microsoft works for me. I have been using Mcafee for over 2 years never had a problem getting updates or anything else I needed.

Reply: (edit)McAfee works Ok, however, don't expect any improvement with their tech support over Norton's. They recently put out an update which erased a vital file in their product (WBHOOK32.DLL). Hundreds of messages across the web attest to the poor response they gave, not to mention their failure to post a replacement file for people to download.

Reply: (edit)Mcafee may take up system resources on their older versions but they are making their versions less of a system lag now. I think Mcafee is the best all around compared to Norton because it has easy updates, is more compatible, and the easiest to find the licensed version's off the net!

Reply: (edit)Mcafee crashes your computer then eats it up. this is not good. norton is quick easy and simple. norton also only eats what you tell it. it's not a pig.
