How do I set the path for root? I did a
PATH=/....... in my /etc/profile file, and it works just fine for the normal users on my system. When I try to run anything specified in the path as root though, it never finds anything except the usual stuff it would find with an unedited path.Any ideas as to why it isn't taking effect for root?

Have you tried making your changes in root's .profile? The root home directory is typically set to the root directory, /. It doesn't have to be. Check root's entry in /etc/passwd for that info.
