FOr some reason the newly installed version of XP is asking me for a password. I never asked it to, I just asked it not to use the wellcome screen.

I'm unable to get into my system.

I've never had this problem before with XP and can't understand why its happened.

ANy clues?

Thanks

Solved it by restarting in Safe mode then creating a new Administrator.. not sure why this happened though..

can you click in nothing, in other words just click inside the password box and put nothing in and then go into Windows?
If so download and install Power Toys Tweak-ui tool and set up auto logon...make sure when you do it you put cursor in both boxes for user and password and type nothing when doing that also and it will all work fine.
Happens to me every once in a while and I think an occasional Windows Update triggers it.

1.Restart windows and press F8 to log into BIOS menu and select "Safe Mode" from menu and Enter. In the welcome screen you'll see to names yours and Administrator, click on Administrator and log into windows. Then open control panel>user acounts then change your acounts password or delete it.Restart and log in with your new password.

2.Restart windows and press F8 to log into BIOS menu. After that go to "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" and when control panel appears write on it

"cd Windows" and enter
"ren *.pwl *.pas" and enter

Restart windows and type any password in the password label,it does not matter what and log into OS.
