There is no Dos in XP, just an emulator. To get into real Dos you could boot into W.98 then go to the underlying Dos which I think is ver 7.1. But if you are trying to access your XP partition using Dos you might have a problem if you are running NTFS as real Dos does not recognise NTFS.

Good luck

There is no DOS in XP, only a DOS emulation. The startup disk created from within XP will take you to real DOS, but that's all. It is the version of DOS that comes with Windows ME and is designed for booting to DOS in order to flash the BIOS. You cannot install Windows from this disk nor can you run Windows XP from it.

To create a Windows XP Startup disk, go to the following site:

http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/13/4/13-4-8.shtml

or

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e8fe6868-6e4f-471c-b455-bd5afee126d8&displaylang=en

This should only be needed if you don't have the ability to boot from the CD as the Windows XP CD has everything needed to install Windows XP.
