Comment: It was my total mistake. I just posted up a message yesterday about hotfixes/updates. Well, "stupid me" before even reading the replies I decided to go ahead & delete hotfixes/Windows updates from Add/Remove Program. "I should've never done that!" I deleted something I shouldn't have & my computer crashed & now all my pictures aren't accesible! I don't have a clue about messing with a computer, so someone please help. On startup a blue screen pops up saying that I don't have winserv & need a cd. I have no clue what that means. Plus, I don't have a reboot cd! My friend rebooted mine with MS XP Media Edition (but the one I had was MS XP Professional SP2) is there any was I can reboot it was XP Pro. SP2? Plus, after he did that my comp. works but it keeps asking for activation key, etc. He also backed up my files & it's there but I can't access my pictures (which are the most valuable thing on my comp). Every thing else (papers, videos, music) is accessible. SOMEONE PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!! I THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH IN ADVANCE!!! -Esmim "I need Computing for Dummies!"

Reply: (edit)Holy crap! This is trouble! If it's asking you for the activation key then Windows might stop working after a month! I've never heard of anything like this before. You might have uninstalled the program that lets you look at pictures. Can you get to the my pictures folder? If so, what does it say if you try to open one of them? With this case, i'm afraid to say you might have to reinstall Windows with your friend's CD. If you have an MP3 player or iPod or flash drive, hook it up and drag all of your pics onto it. If you have TONS of pictures, you might run out of room. Find more flash drives, or put on the most important ones, before Windows quit's working! If you reinstall Windows, make sure your friend has the Certificate of Authentication and the activation key before reinstalling. If all else fails, your local computer repair store will do something. (For a "small" fee...) If, you have a CD burner, and you didn't delete your burning software, buy some blank CD's and start backing up your pictures and music! Oh, yeah, once Windows quit's working, it will only boot into safe mode. Wish you luck and hope this helps! -Trent Compaq Presario 5365 AMD K6-2 450 Mhz 128 MB RAM Windows 2000 Professional

Reply: (edit)She probably bought the computer from someone who builds and sells computers, and it didn't come with a CD. Thats the way it was when I got my Custom Built Windows XP computer... Compaq Presario 5365 AMD K6-2 450 Mhz 128 MB RAM Windows 2000 Professional

Reply: (edit)This may not help but I wish whoever told you to delete Windows software updates from Add/Remove Program had also forewarned you with THIS that doing so in the wrong order may cause the operating system to stop functioning. As for your remark On startup a blue screen pops up saying that I don't have winserv ..., I don't know what is winserv but if it was a typo for winsrv, then check out the following link. Causes for Stop: c0000135 and winsrv was not found error message i_Xp/VistaUser

Reply: (edit)I'm gonna have to agree with XpUser on this one. Why would you want to uninstall updates anyway? Uninstalling updates shouldn't have to do with pictures, unless you uninstalled a bunch of programs, like your picture viewing program, as well. Reply: (edit)I didn't say anything that required any info from the OP before I asked it. I'm just wondering why he/she needed to uninstall updates. The OP also said that he/she couldn't open pictures, and I was saying that uninstalling updates shouldn't interfere with the ability to open pictures, unless he/she uninstalled his/her picture viewing program along with them. I suppose I could have worded that differently...lol Compaq Presario 5365 AMD K6-2 450 Mhz 128 MB RAM Windows 2000 Professional

Reply: (edit)Yes, it is winsrv. Not winserv (typo). I started deleting the MS updates hotfixes/updates for xp, etc. b/c my comp was slowing down. Well, stupid me should've read my other post before doing so. I must've deleted an update for XP that caused my comp to crash. Everytime I click on My Pictures in the backup folder it says "C:\Backup\Documents and Settings\Amy\My Documents\My Pictures is not accesible." "Access is Denied." How can I open up this folder so that I can copy my pictures into my usb before my comp. stops working in a month!?!? I'm very frustrated. Plus, before my comp crashed I made a restore point but I can't find it anywhere? I have no clue how to extract my pictures. I don't care about anything else on the comp. just my pictures b/c they're very valuable to me. (It's of my first baby's birth up until now!) I should've copied them onto a cd or something, but never did. I'm really going to kick myself!! Thanks everyone! But, any more help?

Reply: (edit)Thanks XpUser for the link. I should've done that b4 rebooting b/c I did just install SP2 then my comp crashed. Now, after rebooting I can't access my pictures. My friend doesn't have the activation key & is looking for it. I'm not so sure if he'll even find it. I'm trying to reach another friend of mine who rebuilt my comp. & installed XP Professional. Hopefully, he can help? But, if not then I'm just going trash this laptop until I satisfy my anger LOL. But, please anyone else knows how I can access my pictures in my backup folder?
