Comment: Hello everyone. I am having a problem with the "Shutdown" feature of my computer. This has been going on for a good 5 or 6 months now; every time I try to shut down my computer (using the shutdown feature in the start menu, or vy pushing the button on the computer), all it does is restart. I have to hard-shutdown my computer whenever I have to shut it off, which isn't good because sometimes I need to shut it down in the middle of the night with a third-party program, which only makes it restart. Could someone please tell me what the problem could be? Thank you.

Reply: (edit)Have you tried any MS shutdown fixes? If so, sometimes the one for mapped drives does the trick (even when you haven't got mapped drives). Keep the above in mind and have a look here: SHUT DOWN Pop back if this is all fruitless. I've quite a bit of shutdown info saved. DerekW

Reply: (edit)... two more things. Forget anything in that link about BIOS Updates. These should be avoided unless absolutely essential (can wreck machine). This is the basic MS fix: MS SHUT DOWN PATCH Shutdown problems have been rife with W98SE, as you will gather... DerekW
