Can anyone tell me how to get rid of a problem I'm having with Win 98 SE. When I go to shutdown a dialogue box appears and says that there's a program not responsing. There is no name for the program at the top of the box. I've tried the shutdown patch from Microsoft and that only works some of the time. Can anyone suggest anything?

Run WINTOP or TaskManager (ctrl+alt+del) & identify applications running. End task one and shutdown the pc (process of elimination to find the offending application). Sometimes you may have a duplicate running application which is confusing the shutdown.

run msconfig and goto start up tab uncheck everything but antivirus program scanreg and system tray

I have never had to use it before but it is of my understanding that the ShutDown Patch for mapped drives will help even though you do not have mapped drives. You can check it out at MAPPED DRIVES

You should exit all programs, than shut dowm. If that dosen't work, put your computer in safe mode or in stanby. Stanby has u shut it down with your push of a button. E-mail me at Musicman7@pkFamily.com Glad I could help you!
