I have a Compaq computer running Windows 98 SE (not sure about the specs but it's from 2000, I think). I would like to get it connected to my network at home so I (or actually, my mom) can surf the net using the DSL connection that is set up on our Dell and my Apple Powerbook.

I'm assuming it would be possible to install a network card to the Win 98 machine - but would it be worth the trouble? I've tried using the USB wireless adapter but that didn't work out (sometimes the computer will recognize USBs, sometimes it won't).

And I have an old Micron PC (I think it was running Windows 2000; hard drive died) from around the same time which does have a network card. Could I remove the network card from the Micron PC and install it into the Compaq Win 98?

But again - would it be worth the hassle? I haven't opened up any of my computers before to install or remove anything but I'm willing to try... just wondering if there would be any issues with compatibility though.

No reason it shouldn't work. It's just a matter of pulling the card from the Micron system and plugging into the Compaq. You may need drivers, but they should still be around (more likely Win98 will pick up on the card and ask for the Win98 CD to install it's own).

It's really not that big a deal just to swap a card. Network cards are usually one of the easiest to add, and it sounds like you know how to set up the networking connections already. Just follow some basic safety precautions:
