Reply: (edit)For Samba: On line pdf version of the "Using Samba" book by O'Reilly: http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/samba/chapter/book/indexpdf.html there is a chapter that explains where to get it also. The way to make solaris 2.8 be part of your NT domain - I imagine - is to bind the box to the domain so that it uses the domain info as its info. I don't know if To do this you have to let ypbind know name which server to look at. make a directory in /var/yp with the name of the domain you wish to bind to then create a normal file /var/yp/binding//ypservers that has the name of your name server in it. Make sure the name server has an entry in /etc/hosts and also make sure that this box has the name server in its host file. Also on the name server make sure all information is updated for including this box into the domain. No clue how to do this in NT! Back on the Solaris box... The /etc/defaultdomain file should contain the name of the domain you plan to become part of. Now, you need to start and stop yp services in order to rebind it to the name server you specified. To do this: /usr/lib/netsvc/ypstop /usr/lib/netsvc/ypstart and it should try to bind to the domain in default domain using the ypservers file as a guide to find a name server. If you have a secondary name server then you can add it to the ypservers file on the line after the primary as a backup. If the primary goes down then the box will bind to the secondary in probably a matter of a few minutes or so. good luck and hope this helps.

Reply: (edit)ok. Some mistakes in the last post. First of all, this post does not like less than and greater than signs so don't use them !!!! the ypservers file should go in /var/yp/binding/domainname/ where domainname is the directory named to the domain you wish to bind to. Also the previous post should say that I don't know if ... this works for an NT domain but it does for a 'Solaris' One but its worth a try. - If the name server is a NT box then it won't have /etc/hosts but i'm sure there is something somewhere to specify that the solaris box's IP need be recognized. Also, put the name server's IP in the /etc/host file of the Solaris box. ok. i think thats it. will be more careful next time. ....

Reply: (edit)You may wish to try my "Samba Cookbooks" at http://members.nbci.com/dansgold. They were written for Linux, but many Solaris users have written me with thanks as well - so it can't be TOO different. Also - go to http://www.sunfreeware.com/ for the world's easiest install package!
