May be somebody help me with Solaris 8 and DHCP configuration. I found all instructions on how to do it. I have linksys router and 4 windows machines at home successfully using it as a DHCP server. Now i am adding Spark10 (with Solaris 8 installed) and I have a weird problem. I can see on a linksys interface that it sees my Solaris box - it tries to assign an IP address - and lists the box with hostname, MAC address and IP assigned - for a second only. It tries again to assign it 2-3 times and when it dissapears from the router DHCP table. Message on Solaris box after that is stating that - "wait timed out. operation is still pengding". I run the DHCP agent in a debug mode and it gives this message - sbin/dhcpagent: debug: select_best: no valid OFFER/BOOTP reply I found an explanation on one of the websites - If you see this message, the request never reached the server, or the server cannot send a response to the client. But Solaris Box is able to talk to the router - Router see's it and assign IP. Why the Spark station is not "getting hold" of this IP and drop it with "timed out message"? PS - I also were changing the WAIT time to a bigger numebers and to "forever" - didn;t work as well. Will appreciate any help. DOnt know where to go from here.
I fixed the problem. It was a network cable. The weird thing - this calbe now perfectly works with my other windows machine. But it wasnt good enough fot Solaris. DHCP works now.
