Comment:

I am trying to boot Unix on a notebook that has a built-in RAID controller.

The RAID controller is a Promise FastTrak 378 (compatible with TX4000/376/S150 TX Series).

The closest other controller is a Promise FastTrak S150 TX2+ (probably compatible).

Promise says they do not support the Sun Solaris Unix OS and have no drivers for it.

When I boot the Solaris 10 Installation CD, it fails to find any hard disk drives.

In an MS Windows environment, you would press F6 upon startup and manually load a driver from a floppy.

But since there is no driver available for Unix, how to overcome this problem and install the OS anyway ?

Feel free to write a driver for this card and solaris 10.

Conversely, use hardware listed as compatible on the hardware compatability list.
