Subject: shutdown SOLARIS 8 SUN SPARCOS: solarisCPU/Ram: Ultra Sparc IV |
Comment: Does anyone know how to shutdown solaris 8 machine(SPARC IV) using only keyboard keypress? For example, system is locked but pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL(for instance) force system to shutdown gracefully, i.e. without logon and knowning root password. my system is:
root@prime# uname -a SunOS prime 5.8 Generic_108528-27 sun4us sparc FJSV,GPUZC-M

Reply: (edit)<>What do you mean by keyboard keypress?</> Sorry for my poor English... We on the work have the person on duty, who must turn off machine... Root password I cannot give to him... Linux on x86 it is turned off with the aid of CTRL+ALT+DEL, it would be desirable this to make on SUN SPARC

Reply: (edit)As Solaris is a real OS it does not answer to CTRL-ALT-DEL... ;-) Please have a look in http://www.sun.com/blueprints/0603/817-3062.pdf and read about Role Based Access Control (RBAC) and learn about setting up a Shutdown Role.
