Hi, I'm trying to install sol8 on a sparc5 wkst. I get as far as disk 2 (approx 55% installed) when it stops and gives the following errors:

ok

I have three hdd's with the partitions set as
/ c0t3d0s0
swap c0t3d0s1
/usr c0t2d0s6
/var c0t1d0s5
/opt c0t2d0s7
I've tried reinstalling 3 times and the same errors happen every time between 50-60% of the software install. If one of the hdd's is going bad how do you tell which one it is from the error msgs?
Thanks
RS

how many devices do you have connected and how dit you connect this and what is you total scsi -cable length??? (not just cables, dut also devices, like disks (10 cm), sparc 5 SB (60 CM)

Are you using 50 pins and 68pin scsi devices mixed up or... do you use a specific structure?

First question is why do you want to split this up between three drives. You have a higher possibility of failure seeing if one of these goes you will not be able to boot. You are going to slow boot time also with this configuration.

Is there already an OS on this system.

If not boot cdrom -s and run format. post the output so we can look to see what you have for drive size and type etc..

If you can you should really put usr on c0t3d0s0

The difficulty in trouble shooting this is that they are all on the same bus which causes all other devices to time out makeing it hard to determine what is your problem. Troubleshooting 101 limit hardware to what is really needed. If time is not important then I would see if I could load OS to 1 drive as is normal procedure. Install the end user without OEM support and load will take a quarter of the time.

Thanks

CA

Thanks to all that replied. I wound up reinstalling from scratch and still got the same errors..but after three times it finally finished successfully. To answer the question as to why I was doing this with 3 devices, I was running out of room on an already existing system and just wanted to add an extra drive while still keeping the existing configuration.
