Comment:

I have a Sparc 4, and recently installed a scsi-cdrom drive. I am trying to format the hard drive and load Solaris 8. These are the steps I have take to do so:

Boot up window showing memory etc... pressed STOP+A, put the install disc in the CD drive, and type boot cdrom from the ok prompt

When I executed these steps it gives me a error."boot: not found"???

Am I doing something wrong???

Thanks in advanced!!

I've already tried that, and it still doesn't work?? Anymore ideas would help. I believe I have to set my cdrom with target 6 for it to be a bootable device. How do I do that??

Click the button on the back on the CDROM until it displays 6.

If you have an older SCSI CDROM (ala SCSI type I) you may have jumpers on the back next to the SCSI cable to set the ID. Some were done binary style (ID 6 would be closing third set of pins from left). Don't guess though.

If you have no button with Readout (which greg assumed), and no labeled set of pins (I'm assuming if you did you wouldn't be asking), then you should google up the web pages for your brand X SCSI drive and hunt for 'jumper settings' on their web page.

--brick to the head--

6 would be closing the 2 _and_ third set of pins from the left.

...spell checked blindly over that too...
