i need to copy tape to tape (4mm) the files are ufsdump files. i tried using the command:

% dd if=/dev/rmt/0 of=/dev/rmt/1

that didnt do anything, not even an error message. please help, i need to get this done asap for my boss! thanks,

Hi

U try with ufsdump.
#ufsdump 0uf /dev/rmt/0 /dev/rmt/1
if it does not work copy to harddisk and dump again.

i tried it and it got hung up and i had to do a "stop a" to get out of it.

any idea why it is doing that?

Try using tcopy. tcopy doesn't care if the format is tar, cpio, or ufsdump. It just copies data from one tape drive to the other.

I use a pair of DDS-2 tape drives with 90mm tapes to duplicate dumps and it works fine.

Your dd command probably won't work without a bs=63k anyway.
