Could any one help me out to create a domain in Solaris.
The Solaris Server should have running DHCP, Internal DNS,Internal Mail Server.
So client PC's will logon to Server and get there mail internaly.

Install sendmail as your local mail server. DNS is done with named/bind. The dhcp server is from http://www.isc.org/products/DHCP/dhcp-v3.html

Please let us know any problems you have and someone would be glad to help. Precompiled packages are available at

Thanks for the advice that is really helpful for me. I have a question ---

What changes I have to do on Win98 clients to log on to Solaris domain server ? do I have to join that to domain or part of workgroup? Hoping there is no W2K domain on the LAN and only Solaris server is the one.

And what changes I have to do on Solaris server to configure the server as domain server ?

I think I am mixing the W2K concept with that.

Hi David,
could you let me know what setting I have to do on the Windows system to join to domain(Solaris) because (In terms of W2K domain) we have to configure the client for microsoft
and put the entires and same for Novell domain we have to run the novell client and that look for a NDS trees etc...

Installing the Samba server will help to give the files and print access to the windows users I guess ??
Or do I have to do any thing on the server, after installing the DHCP and Samba server on the Solaris.

Thanks
JP1
