i have a 3 com etherlink 3 ISA NIC.
I have a client connected to it using peer to peer. i was wondering if it could be woken up by the lan setting - WON.
I have it in the bios - not sure about the card also i need a cable to go from the card to the motherboard, where does the cable plug in and how much is it.
Or do i need a hub or a router for WON.

cont... (from above)

the NIC must have a cable coming off it (3 wires) which will attach into a small, usually white connector (like old CD AUDIO) which will be marked as WOL.

Then the mothboad has to support it (like you said it did) and make sure its on.

The next bits the hard bit, You have to send a special packet along your network to the PC. Ive only found big programs that support this, not a simply one where you can just type the name and press the WakeUp button :(

If you find one send me it pls.

Now so far ive found problems with the WOL feature, I come to work on a morning and every PC with WOL (all in 1 room) are ON. This is problems as the room heat gets over 70°C

Good Luck

I found a program, which can wake up a computer over a LAN and it only takes up about 319KB. It is command-line-bases and uses the MAC# of your NIC, but it's very easy to use.

In XP you find it by typing "getmac /s 'computername' " in "Run" . If you are using a different OS, try searching for "mac address" in help, that's how I found it.

Good Luck =;-)
