I am running Novell Client (4.91) and this is used to run a dos based program. It is an old in house built database. The program is running super slow since my Novell had to be reinstalled. Our old IT guy isn't with us anymore but he would chance something within Novell and it made the program work faster. Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

My guess is that he was changing the settings so that the newer aspects of the Novell Netware environment were turned off. Novell has changed a lot over the last 15 years.

All of this depends upon knowing your particular netware setup.

Some common things:

make sure you have one network protocol bound to the novell client. you will either be using IPX/SPX of TCP/IP.

you may be just using a bindery logon system rather than the newer NICI/directory based system. If so then in the setup you make sure it is bindery based.

The novell client seeks the nearest server via a number of different means, including DHCP, SLP, a host file, and SAP. You probably just need one.
