Comment: on start up on my imac it will do the ding sound and then a gray screen with come up.I can get in my destop by hold option at the ding in the start up but I dont want t do that everytime I get on so can you help me please?

Reply: Sounds like you have an extension or startup item problem. Start by disabling any recently installed extensions and see how rebooting does then.

Reply: Actually I do tech support for macs and see this ALL the time. Unplug any usb devices and hubs from the machine so that only the keyboard and mouse is in then start it up. 99% of the time it will boot. If it does boot up shut it down and plug everything back in... trust me on this one... i see it 2 or 3 times a weeek. -Flaystus
