Comment: I have very little knoweledge of linux, trying to mount the following /media/stuff. server has 1 HD and red hat enterprise 5 installed. tried different commands od mount found on google but none work. Used mount -t /media/stuff and that just led me to a prompt, is there any way to check? used mount and it didn't list what i was looking for.

Reply: (edit)Pretty sure you don't mount directories. You mount devices in most cases. mount -t type device dir When you do a ls /media/stuff what do you see? "Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, are in my top 10
