Reply: (edit)Hi, Firstly I'm not sure how good USB support is in Redhat 9 . As an example, I had installed redhat 9 and I have a HP USB scanner which works in any version of linux except redhat. I think the problem is the default redhat 9 kernel thats used. Lets assume ur redhat install is fine with USB what U will need is to load the appropriate kernel module manually. Take a look at this page http://www.dotaster.com/~shuu/linux/usbmgr/ Thats a pretty handy program. But before trying it out just do a 'insmod acm.o vendor=0x1690 product=0x0101' as root user ofcourse without the quotes. That should load the required module for ur hardware and u should now be able to see it in KDE's USB view program. Hopefully after that U can open up KPPP which is a PPP dialer for KDE and enter the relevant details and it should dial and connect. Ive never done this mind U so post back if u have any more questions. See ya, madmax

Reply: (edit)I have RedHat 9 with the latest kernel from RedHat. I have no problem with USB Printer or Flash Card reader. It has been my experience that RedHat wont always find the modem. I just configure it maunully and it works. This is with a PCI Hardware modem as well as a Serial Modem I use on my laptop. IActually I think RedHat did find my PCI Modem but I had to mannually configure the serial modem and then it worked fine. Good Luck Ron

Reply: (edit)HI i tried to do what mad max said loading the module acm but it says it is already loaded ...(and other time said that the parameter vendor doesn't exist) the modem is still out. Well, looking in the Hardware browser, i see that redhat has detected my modem but says that the controller is unknown... as i said before im very new to Linux so i will thank any kind of help.

Reply: (edit)Hi, I have the same problem. This modem does not work with Linux USB because it is not "acm" compatible. "acm" is a standard interface used to comunicate with comms hardware. This modem uses a specific vendor interface so it does not work with Linux USB. :-(
