Hi guys,

I am in process of configuring a recently downloaded Debian (Etch) virtual machine. Could some one please tell me how to setup a US keyboard layout? Its default keyboard is something else (Germany I think) which maps keys to different characters e.g. z maps to y etc etc. It is running GNOME and so far I have tried following steps without any success.

- $ loadkeys /usr/share/keymaps/i386/qwerty/us.kmap.gz

- $ setxkbmap us

- Desktop --> Preference --> Keyborad --> Layouts - US English

I want to make the change system-wide so every user who logs in gets the same US keyboard layout and also the first login screen should accept the US Keyboard input.

Cheers,

A Learner
