hey guys, i'm experiancing a small problem.. i had a harddisk drive fail on me a few days ago, it has been going out for a while and finaly died, it was a 250gig maxtor and partitioned as my D: (no OS on it, just data).. so i removed it from the system.. now all the sudden my system stutters, audio/video/cursor/etc.
the hdd i am using now is a ATA166 160GB maxtor (6Y160P0). i just ran chkdsk and defrag with no help. the bios and windows configuration is all setup correctly, and i doubt its something like my video card (Geforce FX 5600) or sound card (REALTEK AC'97 onbord) the reason being that i have never had a problem with them before, this just happened AFTER i removed a slave drive..
drivers are up to date, Virus scans and ad-ware scans come up with nothing.
Hane no idea, but advice on posting is list all your problems at once because now it looks like your question has been answered. Your follow up looks like answer. I will remove this soon.
P.s why does everybody gisable their alert button?
bios settings are all correct.. the thing is, when i first built the PC it had only this drive in it, it worked fine. then i put the 2nd in and after sometime it died.. now im back to the original HDD and its acting up. and i havnt changed any drivers/hardware configs or anything that would cause this..
i am thinking maybe i should partition off a few gigs on the drive and then install windows on that small partition and see if its acting up, If yes, then its hardware, if not then its something software related (whitch i hope it is, i dont want to spend any more money on drives)
