WOW. When did this happen? Cnet is now part of the Tom's uhhh, franchise?

I like the new theme and relieved to see the posting system hasn't changed! When, why, how? What do you guys think of the changes? Especially for the guys who have been here long term.

Hope this post dosent annoy mods, but I thought the change deserved a mention and there is no off topic forum.

There's a longer thread in the XP forum.
http://www.computing.net/answers/wi...

Justin had announced the upcoming changes in a post there a couple of days ago. He's merged the site with Toms and will be staying on as administrator. The original announcement thread was pulled as some of the comments became a little heated. ( over 70 responses) Seems generally to have been well received.

Justin had posted in the XP forum informing us that a change was on the way & explained about the "partnership" with Tom's. Apparently some of the responses to the thread got a bit nasty so he was forced to delete it. Someone started a 2nd thread & I don't see that one anymore either.

The new theme kicked in a couple of days ago.

Oh OH, sorry for starting another one!

I dont visit the site quite as frequently as I used to. Its a pity Justin was forced to pull threads because of arguments. Keep the Place nice guys. Heh.

I like the theme though. Good to see that Justin is still in charge, CN is still in good hands then and the good stuff should stay the same.

Did you have your coffee yet? The second thread is still here - so far nothing nasty have been added to it.

Heh, I read that thread before. Was gonna comment there But I guess I've already said it now... OH well:

Good work Justin! I've been on the forums for 8 years and I like the changes. As it says in the other thread, It looks nice and hasn't lost any of its functionality. The forum system this site uses is one of a kind, so its good to see all the work you've done is still in tact!

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. Sorry I had to pull down that other thread. It got to the point that I felt if I simply removed the bad posts, they would have come back. Its kind of a shame because I wrote a whole introduction about what was happening. I probably should have saved that to a text file before I deleted the thread. Oh well!

Justin - I have a copy of it. Do you want me to post it here (not the whole thing but only what you announced)

Hey Justin -

One more thought - does the makeover come with a thread lock switch where no one can post to important announcements? If not why not implement one?

hahaha, kidding. Good Idea though. I think maby pasting important announcements on the front page would be good too.

XpUser,

Thanks to Richard59 & yourself, I know that the 2nd thread is still alive.

I've got no complaints about the new theme. The bright blue takes a bit getting used to, but other than that, it functions the same as the old.

BTW, I don't drink coffee, but I'm about to crack open my 2nd 24oz bottle of Diet Coke :-)

Never been a fan of Tom's, so I felt a bit blue (ha!) when I first saw the "new" CN.

At least Justin's still in charge. :)

Hey,

An off-topic forum is something I have been considering.

I personally think an off topic forum is a good idea. It would be a good section for general discussion, a place to show off fancy DIY work, super P3 ideas and I have often wanted to ask questions here about electronics DIY but not really a suitable forum for it here.

There are a lot of other areas that I think the people of CN would also have a good knowledge of, so I think an off topic forum would be great. It would probably perk up some more traffic. It would be nice to make posts once in a while which dont have anything to do with trying to fix a PC!

Yes indeed, I want to have an off-topic section, where we can talk about everything freely.
