Subject: LOST 7 GB of my 20 GB hard drive!HELP!!!

Comment: I have a 20 GB Hard Drive which I split into 2 partitions. One of it is a 14 GB and the other one is a 6 GB. I have tried to use Partition Magic 7 to merge those two drives together, but got the error messages 1520 and 1613 during the operation. So I gave up and inserted the Windows 98 SE Boot Disk to convert them to FAT32 and delete the partitions. After that, I installed Windows 98 SE. Now, all I can see is a 13 GB Hard Drive. My other partitions containing of 6 GB used to be on drive D:\, but now, it is replaced by my cdrom drive. Do I need Drive mapper to correct this problem? I don't think that I converted my 6 GB partition into FAT32 yet, so that may be the problem. Please help me on this problem to recover my lost space.

Reply: (edit)Run FDISK and delete all partitions. Create 1 active primary partition using all available space of the drive. Format again and reinstall Win98se.

Reply: (edit)I found out where my other partition is. It is a NTFS partition and therefore didn't show up on my Windows 98 SE drive list. I have tried to convert both of my partitions to FAT32 by Partition MAgic 7 Pro, but I get an error message. ERRER 1613: Directory flag set for non-directory File 641 I have tried CHKDSK /F multiple times. What should I do now?

Reply: (edit)I'm not familar with partition magic so I don't know if that will allow you to read the NTFS partition. NTFS is the file system prefered by NT, Win2k and XP. Why was the disk partitioned orignally? Were you running NT, Win2k or XP? Need more info to help. Use email mp1361@charter.net

Reply: (edit)I alwais use PQ7 and PQ4. If you can't delete the NTFS partition with PQ7 try it with PQ4. Dont use PQmagic often though, it can couse some weird problems if you do.
