Subject: Fans running full tilt on ECS KN1OS: N/ACPU/Ram: ECS KN1 SLI LITEModel/Manufacturer: Home built |
Comment: My KN1 SLI LITE motherboard (with AMD FX2 processor) runs the processor and case fans at full speed all the time, from boot-up onwards. BIOS reports all temperatures nice and low. I believe this is AMD's "Q-fan" system not working properly, but I'm not sure what to do about it. A prior motherboard that had to be replaced did not have this problem. Any suggestions where to start?

Reply: (edit)Check a couple of settings in the BIOS. Under Power Management set AMD Cool & Quiet Control to Auto. In PC Health Enable Smart Fan Control.

Reply: (edit)Thanks for the input; AMD Cool and Quiet is set to Auto - I have no option under PC Health to enable smart fan control (I assume that's "Q-fan"). My BIOS is up to date... I flashed it (and corrupted it on the first try, and spent several frantic hours rigging up a floppy drive and doing a recovery flash) to the newest version recently. Any other ideas?
