CPU/Ram: AMD 3000+/768 MB
Model/Manufacturer: Compaq/Presario SR1403WM

I recently reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled windows, but the sound didn't work.
So I checked it, and it needed drivers. So I downloaded the drivers, installed them, and restarted my computer. The "New Hardware Wizard" came up and I directed it to the drivers.
However, it stopped while applying the drivers, with "An error occured during the installation of the device: Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)"
My sound card specs:
Realtek ac'97 audio, integrated
Windows XP home, SP2

Windows Updates if you choose CUSTOM will quite often offer drivers, have you aqctually tried that ??

CRC error usually indicates a corrupt file - try redownloading the driver, maybe from another source if possible.
May or may not be an indication of HDD or RAM problems, if you continue to get errors, might want to scan the hard drive, test the memory
