Subject: Device Manager Error Code 19

Windows 2000, Samsung CD-ROM SC-152L, Philips PCRW804, Iomega Zip(brand) 100 MB external zipdrive in USB.

I was installing the new external Zip-Drive From the included CD. I installed the CD from the CD-Rom. After the setup wizard was complete and I clicked the finish bullet, I turned the CPU off per instructions. I then hooked up the Zip-Drive to the USB port. I re-started the system and immediately began to get onscreen error boxes about the devices. I clicked three OK bullets (CDR, CD/RW, and Parallel Port device). I went to My Computer and uninstalled all 3 devices. After re-starting the computer, the wizard was supposed to recover the drivers for these devices and did not. I tried the Control Panel’s Add/Remove Hardware Wizard, But I got a error message that my registry might be corrupted (Code 19) I went to Device Manager for Error Code 19 which told me that I need to reinstall a Plug-N-Play device. The two CD drives are listed, the ZipDrive is not, and there is nothing in the registry. The Parallel Port Device is gone. I can’t re-install.
How do I fix this? I have C drive and A drive only. I thought I needed to re-boot Windows, but have no CD drive.
I tried Driver Detective, but it tells me I haven't got the updated files and can't update them. I tried to go to the manufacturers pages, but another deadend.

I got the same message too. did you ever get any advice as to how to fix it. I have tried uninstalling the device, unplugging them, restarting the PC and then after turning it off again attaching them and it finds the devices but throws the same code 19.

I vote "windows sucks" on this one ladies and gentlemen. Same is happening to me and my brand new LG 24x10x40 burner. It's pathetic. No reasoning, nothing we do ourselves, just plain "not-working-ness" and we're expected to just accept it because "it happens". Sorry for all the quotes... but when you think you've finally got the mac-daddy PC up and running for a change, Windows comes along and randomly messes everything up. booooo
