Comment: When trying to burn music from windows media player , an error message appears saying "insert blank disk " when there is already one in , using cd-r 1x-52x compatible . Drive reads CDs and other files , pictures etc , but not blank disks . Any ideas ? CARNOUSTIE

Reply: (edit)Are you using store brand CDs or name brand CDs. Store brand CDs can cause problems like you describe. Name brand CDs (sony, memorex, ect.) work better. Or could be some other problem.

Reply: (edit)Tried brand name cd-r , no luck , it formats music from media player to the 2nd track of 11 then stops and declares that the disk is no use . Yet when other ripped files and music are in the drive it starts to rip them automatically and recognises photos etc etc . Do I need to buy an external cd / dvd drive ? Help !! CARNOUSTIE

Reply: (edit)I have never seen a 1x- 56x CD-R, which should handle all speeds up to 56x, but I had the same problem: new disc in CD-ROM reads as full and/or requests "insert blank disc" Then I noticed that my CDs are CD-R 52X and I think that I will try slower (lower) number: my old CD/DVD was only 16x (read) 8x (write) and when I booted up the old computer and stuck a 56x cd-r in it: it failed to recognize the disc and did what you reported with yours.
