Subject: Help: wrong DOS boot disk
Comment:

I'm trying to restore an old PC. It has a version of DOS on it, but I don't think it
was set up properly. I made a system disk from another PC (DOS 6.22a). It gives me a
prompt with this but many commands don't work.I get wrong DOS VERSION message. How can I find out which DOS version is on the PC, since it only reads the version on the floppy
disk?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Type ver to see which version you
are running
Use setver /? to solve the

Problem with the ver command is it only tells you the OS in memory. i.e. The one on the boot disk!
Robert
What is the file date/time of your command.com, this will hopfully tell us the version.

Once you know which version is on the hard disk. You may be able to fix the problem.

From your e-mail message, The date of your command.com (03-10-93 6:00a) says that you have MS-DOS 6.0 loaded on your hard drive.

Thanks to everyone who replied, especially
M.C. I did contact Dan the Man and he sent
the disks. The old PC is working again.
