Subject: Help: wrong DOS boot disk |
Comment: I'm trying to restore an old PC. It has a version of DOS on it, but I don't think it was set up properly. I made a system disk from another PC (DOS 6.22a). It gives me a prompt with this but many commands don't work.I get wrong DOS VERSION message. How can I find out which DOS version is on the PC, since it only reads the version on the floppy disk? Any help greatly appreciated.

Reply: Unisol Problem with the ver command is it only tells you the OS in memory. i.e. The one on the boot disk! Robert What is the file date/time of your command.com, this will hopfully tell us the version. Once you know which version is on the hard disk. You may be able to fix the problem.

Reply: From your e-mail message, The date of your command.com (03-10-93 6:00a) says that you have MS-DOS 6.0 loaded on your hard drive.

Reply: Thanks to everyone who replied, especially M.C. I did contact Dan the Man and he sent the disks. The old PC is working again. Be sure to check out Dan's Abandonware at www.safelink.net/danrose/abandonware.html
