In my desktop PC there are two Opearting Systems - Win 98SE on C-drive and Win XP (SP3) on F-drive. In one morning even though I was getting the option for dual boot, the PC was not booting in XP. I tried by installing Acronis OS Selector but to no avail! Then I ran the Win XP Recovery Console and applied the commands fixboot and fixmbr. Thenafter the PC boots only in XP and no more in Win98 - just reverse of the earlier situation! Actually I've one important program which runs only in Win98 and so I very badly want my dual boot option. Plz help!

... if the bios has settings to allow usb boot support... ya

http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/l...

... if not find setting to boot from CD first and save the setting as you exit bios.

... use a boot-up CD, when booted stick in the cd with pqboot.exe (which you saved to and burnt to cd earlier)type:pqboot.

...OR download ind install this in XP
you can remove it later, seems an easier option, its a dos boot manager that will give you the options to boot to 98.

Well mavis007, I tried by running pqboost from XP. It gave option for only one ID which when entered booted my pc again in XP. I feel now that it is better to format the C-drive containig Win98 and reinstall it there again. Is it possible to go like that especially when my pc is alreday having XP on E-drive (There are two hard disks in the pc and the drive letter 'D' corresponds to the secondary hard disk). I apprehend that the pc may not boot at all once the C-drive is formatted. Moreover, how to re-install Win98 on C-drive?

... I was under the impression that you had one hard drive sub-divided into 2partitions
xp + 98.

... if you have 2 physical drives (check in bios to see if the 98 one is detected)
I'd suggest that you unhook the xp one plonk in the 98 set to master either its on there or you should be able to install to C: via this method.

Well my pc does have two hard discs but the two operating systems reside in a single hard disc that is in the primary one. So the xp one cannot be unhooked like that.
Perhaps it is better to reinstall win98 as I suggested in response no.4.
