Hi,
I am planning to upgrade my CPU but i am facing a dilemma between Intel 3.0 GHz single core vs Intel 3.4ghz Duo core processer. As Duo Core are new I don't know much about it.Which will be better for games ?

Please do reply

The dual core 3.4ghz CPU would definitely be a better gaming chip than the single 3.0. It's got a faster clockrate PLUS a second processing core at its disposal for future, multithreaded games.

My favourite lil PC:
Pentium III-S 1.4GHz @ 1.5GHz
X800XT All-in-wonder, overclocked to 580/600.
250GB HD
2 gigs of PC2100 RAM
QDI Advance 12 mobo, this baby rocks!

Thanks for the reply Jackbomb.Does that mean Dual core is compatible with older games also (say those released before 2006) ?

Yes they're compatible; they'll just use one of the cores.

My Super P3:

We dont know your motherboard, but it is likely that it will not support a Core 2 Duo processor. A Pentium D may be usable. The more important question will be how much RAM you have and what Video card you have.

If those are not good enough, even the fastest processor will not aid you in games. Also, your board will only be able to take in a AGP card and not a PCIe, which will reduce your choices and when you eventually decide to sell it, it is hardly going to fetch you any resale value.

So, decide if you want to go in for an entirely new setup (new mobo, CPU, vid card, RAM) or just go in for a video card and RAM upgrade now and hang on to this for may be a year or two (and then buy the 8 series card :D )

"Yes they're compatible; they'll just use one of the cores."

Core 2 Duo always use both their 2 cores at the same time!
