I was playing a few games and throughout the games every few seconds it seemed slightly choppy, i dont have any money to update my video card. Nvidia mx-420 64mb. the card meets my system req. I have an athlon 64 2800+ running clock speed at 1.8ghz I have never overclocked before and would like to know if i OC the cpu to around 2.2...would i notice a difference. the games are ER and Lock-On combat. ER requires a 1.2 p4 or equivelent AMD, which i have. It also requires a 64mb t&l capable video card, which i have, barely. but it says that if you dont have a t&l capable card, that the system requires a 2.8 p4 or AMD equivelant cpu for software rendering. I wanted to give an extra boost but i dont know anything about overclocking. I have an asus K8N board, all overclocking is done in the bios. So can anyone tell me what to do?

Next thing you know, you have money missing and your daughters knocked up! Ive seen it a hundrend times.

It's your graphics card that is you giving you the bottleneck.

OC your processor especially when it comes to games will do you little if you don't have a decent graphics card.

My advice would be to save up some cash and at least through in a Nvidia 6200 graphics card in there. these graphics cards are really afforbable now and you will notice a big diff over the graphics card you got in your pc now.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
2GB Dual Channel DDR 3200
Nvidia 6800GT
SATA II 250gig 7200rpm 8mb cache
Gigabyte Nforce 4 SLI

You have a decent board/CPU & plenty of RAM...the weak link is your outdated video card. Overclocking is NOT gonna help. The MX-420 is the bottom of the line in the GF4 & in reality, it's nothing more than a rebranded GF2. It wasn't a good card when it was introduced several years ago & it certainly hasn't gotten any better. Time to save up for a new card....
